§ 04 · Why Tracista
The craft of drawing so that others can cut
In the 16th century a tracista was the master who made the trazas: the drawings of a building. Hernán Ruiz, from Córdoba, drew the bell tower of the Giralda before it existed. In 1589 Juan de Herrera printed the drawings of El Escorial so that anyone could read the building without ever visiting the site.
The drawings produced the templates; the templates produced each stone. The mason never saw the whole vault: only the traza he had to cut.
We draw so that others can cut.
Today the idea lives in a 3D model. The shop floor still needs the same thing: a view, a dimension, a section. That is our job.

Frequently asked questions
- Which 3D model formats are supported?
- STEP (.step and .stp) and STL are supported, on their own or bundled in a ZIP, RAR or 7Z with every part of the assembly. Files are checked by their header rather than their extension, so an STL renamed as STEP is rejected before processing.
- Who can see my models?
- Only the people in your company. Each company is a separate space and the server checks it on every query; files are stored outside the web tree and downloaded through a signed link that expires in five minutes and also requires your session.
- How long does a drawing take?
- It depends on the part and how many views you ask for, and your plan sets a maximum time. Work is processed in a queue: you can close the tab and come back, because the state lives in the job and not in the browser.
- How are my company's accounts organised?
- Your company is identified by your email domain. The first person to sign up with that domain creates the space and becomes its administrator; everyone after that waits for approval. Personal email addresses are not accepted.
- Can I upload a whole assembly at once?
- Yes: upload a ZIP, RAR or 7Z with the parts and you get one drawing for each. The package is opened on the server and checked part by part; anything that is not a valid model is discarded with its reason. Assembly exploded views with a bill of materials are in development.
